As long as I've known what a firefly (or june bug) was I've always questioned it. "How does it do it? How do they light up?!" I know there are scientific explanations and my dad and husband have graciously tried to explain it... over and over...and over. I still don't get it. I'm sure I could surf the Internet to the point of providing graphic details, but I personally think it's a little miracle of God. That makes mores sense to me than any explanation.

My favorite things to do this time of year is to stare out into my backyard each night to catch a show of the fireflies. At night our trees constantly sparkle with them. It's beautiful. And what's so significant about them is that you can't see the full beauty of the sparkle until it's completely dark outside.
How often do I embrace that kind of thinking in my spiritual walk? When trials come and we find ourselves in a dark place do we run and cover or are we bold enough to find real beauty there? Beauty that only One can bring. James says "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." I'd like to say I embrace this kind of fearless life. I strive to... but don't always succeed. I mean really, who wants to befriend trials!? It's so unnatural! ...But it's possible if we believe, submit and know that we can't handle it alone.
Man, I have a ways to go.
